Daniel Goeman

Daniel J. Goeman was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and raised in Grandville, Michigan.  Dan obtained his bachelor’s degree from Hope College, focusing on Political Science, Economics and Religion.  He then worked as a mortgage banker, before attending law school in Indiana at Valparaiso University School of Law. He immersed himself in academics and was a member of the Moot Court (Honor) Society and earned his Juris Doctorate in 1996.

Dan's Story

After completing his legal education, Dan was admitted to the Indiana State Bar and the United States Federal Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.  He practiced law just outside Chicago, Illinois, focusing on civil litigation (defending clients that included US Steel and Speedway SuperAmerica) and real estate development (that included representing numerous local government redevelopment commissions and related agencies).  While practicing in Indiana, Dan served for several years as Judge Pro Tempore in Lake County, Indiana.

In 2002, he was also admitted to the Michigan State Bar and then to the United States Federal Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Michigan.  Dan moved back “home” to West Michigan where Dan has lived and practiced law ever since.  Shortly after returning to Michigan, Dan established his own law firm (Goeman Law Firm PLLC), and in 2018, he and one of his Hope College classmates, Scott Mancinelli, formed Mancinelli Goeman Law Group PC at which Dan and Scott are the principal attorneys.

Dan’s current area of emphasis is estate planning, probate and family law litigation and creditor’s rights and collections.  With regards to probate litigation, Dan established important law concerning the appointment of a guardian/conservator for an incapacitated individual in the published opinion of In Re Guardianship/Conservatorship of Harold William Gerstler, 922 NW2d 168, 324 MichApp 494 (2018).  That important case has been the subject of numerous commentaries and seminars by the Estate Planning and Probate Section of the Michigan State Bar (of which Dan is a long-time member).

In addition to his litigation experience, Dan received extensive training in tax and investment strategies utilizing securities and bonds as well as insurance and pension plans and Dan is one of the few attorneys to be designated a “Chartered Retirement Planning Consultant” by the College for Financial Planning.  He has also passed both the General Securities Representatives Examination (Series 7) and Uniformed Combined State Law Examination (Series 66) and been licensed by the State of Michigan Office of Financial & Insurance Services.

Dan has been on the case evaluation panels of Kent and Ottawa County for several years and served on the Board of Directors for the Jamestown Little League Association.  He has also served as a mentor for disadvantaged individuals through Love, Inc.

Dan lives in Hudsonville, Michigan, with his two sons.
